But I want to record midi and then, like exporting the sounds off a VST I want to be able to export the onboard sounds from the TD30 module by passing the recorded midi as input. I am using the TD30 as the audio interface here. An AU instrument is already playing within Logic so you don't have to route its audio as you must with an external source.

Now when I record midi on a software instrument track, and when I want to export sounds from a VST like Steven Slate, I just use the plugin in the instrument section on the channel strip and hit export, and all the sounds that I have assigned in Steven Slate is exported out as audio files.

Now, lets say I don't want the sounds from Steven Slate, instead, I want the final export of my audio files to have the on-board sounds of the TD How do I do it? Can someone help please? I can record audio from TD30 directly into Logic, I have no problem with that. But I want to first record midi and then, while exporting I want to be able to choose the sounds on the TD This gives me a lot of flexibility as I will be making any changes that I want to the midi events but still get the onboard sounds after the changes I have made to midi events.

I know this is possible in ProTools or Cubase. When triggering an external device, audio is being generated outside of logic and triggered by the MIDI events coming out of Logic. You'll have to set up an audio track recording this stream then solo the MIDI part that you want to record as audio and record in real time.

But I'm not getting any input.

If it is indeed the cable, do I still have to do any of the steps I mentioned when connecting to logic via an interface set the v-drums up through Mac, install a v-drums driver or do anything else for Logic to recognise them? Some usb to host connections do require dedicated drivers, but the vast majority runs as class-compliant device out of the box. If this works, I would prefer it over any Midi interface connection, as the usb-to-host has the chance of actually providing better midi timing, as in much lower latency and significantly reduced jitter, both of which are quite important for midi drum tracking.

As soon as you use the old school midi plugs you're also limited to the 30 year old physical midi transmission, which is greatly inferior to MIDI over USB. Hi Jazz, thanks again!
